North Azerbaijan’s Gabala Named 2020 Islamic Tourism Capital

Baku, North Azerbaijan, Feb 7

North Azerbaijan‘s Gabala city has been selected the 2020 Tourism Capital of the Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

A tweet sent out by the OIC on Tuesday said the announcement was made at the 10th Islamic ministerial conference on tourism held on Tuesday.

Dacca, Bangladesh was named the 2019 Tourism Capital of the OIC.

In 2016 the Tourism Capital of the Islamic world was Konya, and in 2017 it was Madina. South Azerbaijan city, Tabriz is the OIC’s Tourism Capital this year.

The Islamic trade fair should be staged in any of the two recipient cities as a means to further boost Islamic tourism activities, the OIC said earlier. 

The city of Gabala with 15 thousand inhabitants is located at 225 kilometers northwest of Baku, the capital of North Azerbaijan. And, the city is famous for its historical, natural and tourist attractions.
