Iranian Regime Imprisoned 85-Year-Old Baha’i Again After Heart Surgery

Tabriz,South Azerbaijan, Mar 7

Jamaluddin Khanjani, one of the leaders of the Baha’i community in Iran, was transferred to hospital after he suffered heart complications in prison. He received heart surgery in the hospital and was once again transferred to Evin Prison.

It is worth noting that Mr. Khanjani, born in 1933 (85 years old), suffers from various ailments. He has been in prison since February 11, 2009, and his 10-year prison term, which he served without even a day of furlough, will end in March 22, 2018.
He was not even allowed to attend his wife’s funeral during this time.

Since the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran, Baha’is have been systematically persecuted as a matter of government policy. During the first decade of this persecution, more than 200 Baha’is were killed or executed, hundreds more were tortured or imprisoned, and tens of thousands lost jobs, access to education, and other rights – all solely because of their religious belief.
