A tenth session of the forum, based on minority issues was organized by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva, Switzerland on the first of Dec 2017.
In this meeting two of AHRAZ members represent South Azerbaijan and gave a speech about South Azerbaijan people problem in Iran.
The main goal of this forum was focused on the role of young people from minorities in promoting inclusive and diverse societies.
From South Azerbaijan, two members of AHRAZ (Association for the Human Rights of the Azerbaijani People in Iran) with the names of Mr. Shahin Khiyavli and Mr. Amir Makuoei attended at the forum. Mr. Shahin Khiyavli gave a speech about role of South Azerbaijan youths and emphasized the important role of media and education in improving south Azeraijani youths.
Mr. Amir Makuoei another member of AHRAZ gave a speech associated with the power of south Azerbaijani youths to change their region for peace and prosperity.
More than 400 participants attended at the Forum, which is now in its 10th year. Many young men and women from minority communities will be participating for the first time at a UN event and young delegates will be representing their governments.
“At this critical time for minorities, it is very important to have a meeting of young people from minorities. They are the true agents of change and they can be instrumental in improving the situation of minorities around the world,” said Fernand de Varennes, UN Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues. “Efforts need to be made to better recognize and uphold their human rights.”
Mr. Tarik Kurdi, the Chairperson of the 10th session of the Forum stated that The Forum is a unique opportunity for governments and minority communities to build bridges and engage in constructive dialogue.
