Russian consulate general Mr. Konstantin Alexyev on a trip to Tabriz said: “Tabriz is a very important city and we are interested in establishing a consulate in this city.”
The establishing Russian consulate in Tabriz can help Iran-Russia relations in positive way. The Russian official during a meeting with Majid Khudabakhsh, the governor of East Azerbaijan stated that Tabriz is a totally Iranian city with its own face and has a strong history in business and economics.
He added that trade between Iran and Russia, despite its political relations is not desirable. Also, the capacity and variety of trade between the two countries should be increased. Financial and commercial institutions should be stablished.
The Russian Consul General wanted to complete the corridor of the North-South Iran railroad. He added that this great project is important for the entire region in terms of trade between Russia and Iran .
Mr. Khodabakhsh also welcomed the presence of Russian investors in East Azerbaijan. He expressed that the East Azerbaijan is ready to supply food to Russia due to EU sanctions against Russia.
It should be noted that nearly half a century ago, the last consulate of the Russian Federation was located in a vast area in the Maralan of Tabriz, and now it is also the property of the Russian Federation.
