Three South Azerbaijani National and Civil Right Activists Were Sentenced to Jail and Flogging

Tabriz,South Azerbaijan,Feb 10

Three South Azerbaijani national and civil right activists were sentenced to jail and flogging because of attending at “Babak Castle” ceremony.

These three South Azerbaijani activists have sentenced to “Four months of imprisonment and 40 lashes” during unfair judgments of the Iranian judiciary court in Kaleybar city.

According to Gunaz Tv (the official media of South Azerbaijan), Milad Akbari (from Tabriz), Akbar Jahangiri (from Ahar) and Morteza Parvin (from Ardabil) have sentenced each “4 months of imprisonment and 40 lashes “ with unfair court judgment decision which headed by Mehdi Qureshi Zadeh.

They held a court [just] for formalities, and they issued a verdict for these three South Azerbaijani activists on false charges for disrupting public order by launching an unconventional slogan and unlawful community around   the Babak Castle area.

It should be noted that the “International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights” explicitly prohibits the use of humiliating punishment and the abolition of human dignity, such as “whipping”.

These three South Azerbaijani national and civil right activists were arrested by Iranian Regime forces due to participate in the annual gatherings of “Babak Castle” on the occasion of the “Birthday of Babak, the National hero of South Azerbaijan” along with ten other South Azerbaijani activist on June 30, 2017.
