Turkey, Japan, South Korea and Germany Declare Their Cooperation for Revival of Lake Urmia

Masoud Tajrishi, the Director Urmia Lake Revival Headquarters stated that Turkey, Japan, South Korea and Germany announced their cooperation for revival of lake Urmia.

Mr. Masoud Tajrishi in an interview with ISNA said:” There are suggestions and projects from Turkey for improving agricultural conditions of the region. We also talked to South Korea for cooperation in the field of wastewater treatment.”

According to Mr. Masoud Tajrishi, The Iranian government has not issued any licenses for the presence of international companies to revive Lake Urmia. Due to lack of government authorization, we have not entered into any negotiations with any group.

He emphasized that without the financial support of foreigner company, Urmia Lake reconstruction projects will not begin. In fact, the Iranian government refuses to provide funding for restoration of Urmia Lake.

Earlier, the Turkish government announced its readiness to transfer water from the lake Van to Lake Urmia. Unfortunately, the reclamation headquarters did not consider it to be desirable.

It should be noted that Rouhollah Hazratpour the representative of Urmia people, considers the only way to prevent this environmental crisis is transferring water from the Van lake located Turkey.

It should be highlighted that Iran regime is using the model of drying Aral Lake during a Russian project.  The regime began to deliberately drying the Urmia Lake to hit South Azerbaijan. Unfortunately, more than 90% of the Lake Urmia has completely dried up so far according to official sources.

The ecological and humanitarian catastrophe threatens all the people of South Azerbaijan and neighboring regions.
