Turkey TV Presenter: Lake Urmia Crisis Threatens the Lives of at Least 16 Million People

Tabriz, South Azerbaijan, Sep 12

CNN journalist, and television presenter expressed concern over the continuing crisis of the Urmia Lake and the threat to the lives of the residents of the region.

Hakan Celik well-known  Turkish journalist and broadcaster shared an image of Urmia Lake on his Instagram and wrote: ” Urmia Lake is drying up if no action is taken, the lives of at least 16 million people are threatened.”

He added that the Urmia Lake was the largest lake in the Middle East which is on the path to complete destruction. I took this picture on my travels to Tehran this morning.

It should be noted that the dangerous diseases caused by the salt storm of Lake Urmia have put the health of millions of citizens living around the lake at serious risk.

The Iranian regime has not taken steps to revive Lake Urmia. The Revival Headquarters also mentions to lack of budget allocation for saving Urmia lake. The paths of the rivers leading to the lake of Urmia are closed that cause the acceleration of drying lake.
