The second of the last Tuesdays of the year is “Od chershenbesi“, which is popularly called “Üskü çərşənbə” means Fire Festival.
“Od chershenbesi” is associated with the worship of people to the Sun and Fire.
In ancient times Azerbaijani people considered fire sacred, believed that it would protect them from any evil, slander.
“Od chershenbesi” is a mythical embodiment of the second stage of the creation of a person associated with fire. In ancient Turkic mythology, there were various motives associated with fire. According to the beliefs, the fire is associated with the sun and light.
Let us note that on the day of “Od chershenbesi” Azerbaijani people worship fire, celebrations are held in his honor.
It should be noted that the first Tuesday of Novruz – “Su chershenbesi” (water festival) was celebrated on February 27. On March 13, “Yel chershenbesi” (a holiday of the wind) will be celebrated, on March 20 – the last Tuesday “torpag chershenbesi ” (a holiday of the earth or soil).
Spring on the territory of Azerbaijan will come on March 20.
