Water crisis in different parts of South Azerbaijan enters a new phase and this time the authorities announce the new environmental crises in South Azerbaijan-Zanjan city.
General directorate of environmental protection of Zanjan Province stated that The Qizil-Uzen is drying day by day and warning about the formation of risky dust in the region.
Mr. Reza Mousavi the general directorate of environmental Protection of Zanjan added that Zanjan does not really have wetlands and the only permanent river is Qizil Uzen river, however, it can be seen that the most parts of the river are drying.
He also mentioned that the only way out of this crisis is to supply and release environmental water to the river and optimal use of groundwater.
“Qizil-Uzen” is one of the largest rivers of South Azerbaijan, which originated from the mountains of South Azerbaijan and Goes to the Caspian Sea.
According to experts, sustained droughts, over-harvesting, and water misuse during the past 38 years have led to a 55% decline in Iran’s water reserves. The Southern Azerbaijan region has also faced with the serious environmental problems. A typical example is the 90% drying of Lake Urmia.
